The packing is at best marginal. Broken, damaged is not that unusual. Also, I would suggest you plug the TV, the box etc into a surge protected power strip. How many times do we get told to shut off and reboot the ???????? far easier than needing to move the furniture etc to get to the outlet. Just turn off the power strip.
If you pay the few bucks for a set up, I would guess you could get the guys to pick up your old set.

My sectional entertainment center in the living room is 39" wide in the middle where the TV goes. That's just wide enough for a new 43" (diagonal) TV to fit. I realize that a 43" set is not "large" by today's standards, but it will be plenty wide enough for our purposes, especially considering that we have gotten used to watching the old 36" (diagonal) set for so many years.
We have another smaller one-piece entertainment center in the den and the new TV wouldn't fit in it.
