Having been a helper for a DJ in my previous life, it is not just a matter of pressing "Play". Amateur performers put their music on whatever media and in whatever format they find convenient. There are so many different combinations that it is impractical to have the ability to play just any DVD, CD, tape, or SD card on the fly. Even if you have the right equipment and driver software, the person doesn't know what spec they created it with and the DJ doesn't have the time, with an impatient audience, to sort through the possibilities.
