Most vaccines require a booster. I don’t know that in this case it’s the reason that boosters are required. Also, boosters have been developed to deal with new variants.
As has been pointed out the death rate among those vaccinated is much lower than that of the unvaccinated. The rate of hospitalization is much lower as well. Somewhere around 98% if all deaths attributed to this virus have been among unvaccinated people. 99% of hospitalizations have been among the unvaccinated.
I was one of the rare cases that was hospitalized after having both shots. I was also one of the very rare cases that had such severe symptoms including hypoxia that survived.
