The way to get rid of pests inside the grill, is to turn the gas on, but don't ignite it. Let it run for a minute or two, then shut it off and open the cover. Whatever is inside it will be dead or it will have left the grill as soon as it smelled the propane.
Leave the cover open for a few minutes to vent it out before igniting it to cook.
