I preface this question by saying that I have no intention of adding a religious twist to this already heated political discussion. But I have a question regarding Mitt Romney's chances of nomination for the 2012 election. (I suppose this question might apply to what happened to him in the 2008 primary, as well.)

Will the conservative Christian right wing accept a Mormon as "their" candidate?

I have relatives who count themselves in that category and they told me before the 2008 primary elections that they would never vote for a Mormon. They went on to say that they believed his beliefs were that of a cult, not a religion. When I asked who they would vote for, they said that if Romney was the candidate, they would withold their votes.

Is this feeling widespread, or confined only to my "single issue" relatives?
