Just to add on here, a portable one is one that requires you to run a vent out to a window to vent outside.
These produce about 60% of their rated BTU as far as cooling is concerned. This is because the motor is inside, not hanging outside and rattling the neighborhood.
This means if you do get a portable, get the largest one you can find that won't blow your breakers.
A separate mini-split dehumidifier in your closed off lanai area can keep the house tolerable, but you would have to time travel back 6 months to get that installed for right now. Obviously, screened only porches need not apply.
