It seems to me, that the old, egg based vaccines worked and the newer M-RNA based vaccines are not yet ready for prime time...

The mRNA vaccines may not prevent the disease but they certainly do a great job of preventing severe infection in people who had a good response to the vaccine. Those unfortunate people who are immunocompromised and had little or no response from the mRNA vaccines are the people who do not benefit from those vaccines.
