I had basically no air conditioning for the heat wave at the end of June and well into July. Sun Kool came every so many months to service my unit since I purchased my new home almost five years ago. For about a year and a half I complained that my thermostat’s set temperature was never achieved until late evening. I was told that I would never get it to the set temp in extreme heat….BS! So when my thermostat that was set at 74 slowly climbed from 76 to 82 I demanded a service call. Mind you, parts AND labor were still under warranty. First I was told they were going to replace the capacitor and add Pureon, aka Freon. Still no help and in one week I had so many SunKool trucks in front of my house that I think my neighbors must have thought I was having an affair! Only kidding. Finally a “field manager” came and determined that I needed a new compressor. Of course this was the Friday before 4th of July. I was assured it would be ordered that day and it would arrive and be installed on Tuesday. Meanwhile I purchased a portable unit as SK had none to loan out. I laughed when one man put me on hold to see if there was one in the “basement”. Geez! They did finally get one to me and it was missing parts and taped together. Finally the day came on a Thursday when my compressor was ready to be installed. As the installer was charging it with Pureon, I stood in the kitchen with my hand reaching up to the vent. No cold air was coming out. We waited, still no cold air. The installer came back into my house and announced that, although it doesn’t happen often, the “new” compressor was defective. I literally wanted to cry. They had no idea where they would get another or how long it would take. Frustrated and angry as I watched my poor dog panting, I called Carrier and asked to speak with someone in customer service. I told my story of woe to a very kind woman who said in disbelief that she was so sorry for all I endured. She was going to connect me with someone who could help me. I spoke with a gentleman who told me that my experience was unacceptable and that he was going to make it right. Within an hour I received a call from SunKool saying that a compressor was located in Louisiana and was being driven to The Villages, it would be installed in the morning. Miracle of miracles, the installer came back with a box containing a NEW compressor. Within an hour my inside temperature when from 86 to 74. This is my story of being without ac in the summer in FL. My heart goes out to you. I know exactly how frustrated and helpless you are feeling. If you haven’t called the manufacturer yet, I urge you to do so. I do hope you are back to cool very soon.
