I agree that the quality of the food is not the server's responsibility. But, the server expects you to pay them a tip based on 20 percent of the bill, which is a significant amount. So, I think that making sure the customer understands the menu, including the options and charges, is certainly part of the server's job. A good server would have explained any price changes for items the OP ordered. Obviously, the OP felt deceived.
