Cripes! Put yourself in the position of a Democratic Congressman. Would you be going out of your way to send any but the most necessary projects to the districts of your GOP rivals? That doesn't make sense.

And that's the big problem in a nutshell. What we have is an adversarial environment of Dems versus Reps, with both thinking only like and for Dems or Reps
and neither thinking like Americans!
Americans ideally place America above party, but the selfishness, greed and one-upsmanship that are being demonstrated (and this has been going on for quite a while) are appalling. All of the BS about "working across the aisle" and "we shall work together" is lame without action to back up the words.
So, if "to the winners go the spoils," then the rest of us and what we have are just "spoils" for the conquering party. What a sad commentary of a once proud nation and what a pitiful lesson for future generations.
The veterans I know thought the concepts of "duty, honor, country" were paramount to being an American. This "spoils of an election" were never added into the code of conduct, and God help us if those who really defend us ever start thinking and acting like politicians, party "faithful" and spoils-dividers.
