Is premium gas (91-93 octane) required or recommended for your car? Big difference. If it is recommended, then you can run on regular (87 octane and realize less power) as the engine control computer will adjust the timing (from data from knock sensors) to account for the lower octane and all will be well. If it is required, then it is possible that preignition (engine knock) will occur and possibly damage the engine.
