Great route, only toll is crossing the Hudson River on 84. We take the same route except we go a short way on the Mass Pike west to 87 south to 84 in NY. Only tolls are Mass Pike and 87 (we cross the Hudson on the Pike and hit 84 west of the Hudson). Made the drive three weeks ago and only traffic was a 15 minute slow down on 81 a little south of Scranton and another short slow down on 95 in South Carolina. Total miles 1,365 in two days, halfway stopping point around Christiansburg, VA. We got the drive totally down, all food (and thermoses with coffee) packed with everything we need for the entire ride. Only short stops for gas, restrooms, and a walk about to stretch the legs. My wife picks out great books on CD’s to listen to which makes the ride go by much faster.
