I was there. One source had the oncoming vehicle as a cart with a raised roof, not just a "tunnel hog" which I didn't see at the scene although in fairness I got there a few minutes after the accident. The picture was in V i l l a g e s n e w s (probably still is): the way the cart was jammed in there (front end at least 5' off the ground) indicated to me that the cart must have entered the tunnel at a pretty good rate of speed for that to happen.
It is a bad area. three paths converge at the mouth of that tunnel and all turns (and the straight run on one of the paths) are downhill. I've seen a couple of close calls there. But if drivers would just follow the rules such incidents wouldn't be happening.
