Video Doorbell Installation
I’ve been considering to install a wired video doorbell using my existing doorbell wiring for power (i am not interested in the battery powered type).
However, my existing doorbell wiring concerns me. The existing wiring is single strand copper with a diameter of 0.35 mm (i measured it at the transformer) which I believe is 27 gauge wire. That seems far too small a wire for most video doorbells …. Most video doorbells seem to require 30 or 40 VA transformers … which would imply 1.5 to 2 amp current at 20 volts. I think 27 gauge wire is only good for about 0.5 amps.
I am curious, if others have had to upgrade their doorbell wiring for a video doorbell. If so, who did you use and how much was it?
