But because we are talking about a rental, things get tricky. This family of 5 will likely be at the OP’s neighbor’s home for a few weeks, then leave. Are there any guidelines regarding short term renters? I don’t know if they exist. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of Villages homes available for rent on websites such as Airbnb and ****. I have used them myself (although my husband and I rent alone).

Absolutely no short or long term rental restrictions exist. The estimate is that 30 to 35% of the homes in The Villages are short term rentals.
