OK, let me try:
Roofing the ball ; would that be hitting it on the roof. we use to have a nickel tax to play
Down the River : in the sewer
moons up : street lights on?
skelsey: sidewalk game with bottle caps (melted crayon inside the cap)
Crate Cart (w roller skates): our equivalent of todays razor scooter
Remember the skates, they would slip over our keds or converse. They did not come with a shoe like today.
Box Ball: we didn't play box ball. We did play knock hockey if you recall that.
Ring o levio: a type of tag. We played breakout, where if tagged you were placed in a circle and could be freed if tagged by a team mate.
We had a name for a Spalding after it split. We'd flip the half inside out and continue to play. Very difficult for the batter.
I took me kids to see where I grew up. They were astonished. Back then I thought the whole world was like that (I guess we would be considered lower middle class). All we knew and all of our friends were in the same neighborhood, same school, same clothes. For us that was the world.
