The one I have in the garage I set to the same network (SSID) so that I can move back and forth without needing to connect to a second network. Haven't had an issue yet.
Yes, I know the extender is a bit slower (though it does not send signals through the electrical wiring). I have configured it to not accept connections from the few devices that require faster speeds.
