The overwhelming majority of these people are NOT "down on their luck". I'd be the first person to contribute to those that lost their home in Ian, or lost their job to COVID and only want to get a new job and new home and work to earn it. (
and I have). Most of these people are only temporarily homeless since they seek out the help they need and work to get back on their feet. This is more of a "hand up" than a "hand out"
The majority are either mentally ill, drug/alcohol addicted, or have chosen that lifestyle. And as a society we have enabled them when we closed down the large institutions and allowed them "freedom to choose". This was about the equivalent of letting your 3 year old play with matches inside your house.
How many more people that have worked with the homeless do people need to hear from? How many more examples of cities overrun by the homeless do they need to see?
This is why most of us don't want them in our community, and we can do without an army of do-gooders and social workers as well.
