Simple solution is to replace the push-pull valves with more durable valves. When the valve or the push/pull handle pops off and causes a flood it will cost a lot more than a $10 (or less) valve. If you are handy it is fairly straight forward, if not a plumber can easily do it.

Our home, built new in 2019 does NOT have an expansion tank above the hot water heater, probably because we have tankless water heaters.
