When I was in the USAF I met MANY southerners that were OUTWARDLY prejudiced against northerners. It seemed strange to me, but they were VERY serious about it. I imagine some of them have moved to The Villages and still retain their prejudices......which can be easily expressed by a Confederate flag. Anthropologically speaking, it is about tribalism ; they wish to show their tribal colors. It is like a don't tread on me flag. It may be intended to express dissatisfaction with Washington DC. It is like putting down the "system" and being a "rebel without a cause."
There are several Confederate flags in the Historic area.
