Did you intend secede from the union? The Confederacy did not succeed in seceding.
Well, I was born in NJ and raised in NM and recall no acquaintances having strong feelings on either side. Doing active duty in SC in 1965 was my first southern experience. About all I can say about it is I did not care for grits - still don't. I recall seeing the Confederacy's battle flag around Columbia, SC but thought nothing of it as I accepted it as their heritage - still do. I have ancestors who were on both sides as my father was from MO and my mother from MD, both border states.
