Upon reflection I recall many of the Southerners I encountered in SC back in 1965 referred to what I call "The Civil War" as "The War Between The States".
Over the years I spent periods of time in various regions of the USA and found that the cultures all varied a bit from one another. People were for the most part pretty friendly but they looked at things a little differently, spoke with varying degrees of politeness/gruffness and had somewhat differing diets. It is after all, a large country.
