Don't see anywhere in this discussion where snowbirds are being blamed for all the traffic faux pas we see. Fulltime Villagers are certainly capable of boneheadedness on steroids when it comes to driving; golf carts and automobiles.
But it takes time to learn the ropes--AND the paths. One thing you'll see here now through March are carts on streets where they're not allowed. We see 'em in the summer too, just not nearly as often. Another thing that increases this time of year are carts not yielding to automobile traffic at those intersections leading into or out of this-or-that village, where the carts cross the streets.
And one more that seems to increase this time of year; people stopping on the paths to use their phones. I see people using their phones all the time, but the permanent residents soon learn to pull completely off the path onto the grass. I've stopped at a few of the ones using their phones on the path and asked if they needed help; in most instances they were lost and either calling someone for directions or using their phone GPS. Told 'em to pull off the path and I'd give them directions.
It is to everyone's benefit for new people (Villagers, renters, snowbirds, guests) to educate themselves on The Villages golf cart rules. Many, however, apparently neglect to do that.
