People drive further all the time to get places faster.
If you look closely at the map, the 4 lane McNeal will be shorter
from Sawgrass to the Turnpike than 2 lane Megason to 470 and backtracking west
to the Turnpike entrance.
Similar to how 301/Warm Springs is faster from Everglades than Marshbend even though it a couple of miles longer.
If you live south of Sawgrass, it's a different story depending on how far south.
But it's clear Megason south of Sawgrass is designed to discourage through traffic but send it down McNeal past the planned medical and commercial center.
