I didn't say that four lanes were perfectly safe and that no one has ever been injured or killed on four lane highways. I said that four lanes are safer than two lanes.
A study from the University of Wyoming concluded that "the conversion from two-lane roadways to four lane divided roadways results
in a notable reduction in fatal and injury crashes of more than 63% on urban roadways and 45% on rural roadways."
