Actually it is not a bad thing. If someone has a terminal condition or is very old they can declare a no resuscitation order. A friend of mines father was 95 and needed a stint for a block heart artery. In the ER he declined to have the procedure and went out for ice cream. His son came home the next day and they all had dinner then later he collapsed. Because of his wishes they did not resuscitate.
