We now have 3 FULL boxes of just household batteries, smoke alarm batteries, flashlight, etc. etc. We've inquired at several big box stores, they do not take them. What does one do with pressurized cans; whip cream, hair spray, spray paint, etc. now that we can't put them into the trash (the company says they will explode and damage the waste incinerator). We have been here many years and have found few negatives with the community, but.... it is THE most lackadaisical we have ever lived in in regard to hazardous waste, medical waste, lead, bio-hazards, and recycling. We found it very surprising in light of the fact that Florida in general, is extremely environmentally aware state that appreciates protecting the environment. It's very puzzling ?

You need to educate yourself on the waste to energy process used by Covanta, (the company that incinerates our solid waste in their Lake County facility). It is much more environmentally friendly than typical recycling programs plus aids in lowering electrical costs. For hazardous waste, the county has allocated days for drop off throughout the year.
