The intellectual position is that the rabble have no idea what's good for them, and it is the role of the intellectual to do the thinking for the rabble. And if the rabble doesn't follow the "leadership" of the intellectual with total acceptance, then the rabble is simply ungrateful, ignorant and need more measures of control placed upon them. That "control" is more government, higher taxes (so the rabble must seek their "daily bread" from the national bakery) and increased propaganda (where's the "free press" now?).
