The newer 4" filters are far superior. I replace the one in my 2020 Carrier unit every spring with a new $35 3M Filtrate MERV 12 from Lowes: Item #1144660; Model #LDP44-4IN-5;

Of course, the Carrier dealer said the filter that came with it is much better filter.
