The corruption of the drug companies is not a political matter. It's a fact and largely the result of the lack of regulation.
There is a video on YouTube of a lecture by the former Editor-in-Chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, Dr. Marcia Angell, who goes into detail how the drug companies continually produce new drugs for the same illnesses that often have less efficacy, just so they raise the cost of them.
It's known that the drug companies will inflate the cost of life-saving drugs to increase their already obscene profits. They have no ethic; their only objective is the bottom line. But that basically is how our system operates.
Capitalism needs control; otherwise, you have unbridled capitalism, which is what we have today.
We've gone through this in the past with the Progressive era when they broke up Standard Oil and Upton Sinclair wrote the Jungle about the meatpacking industry, etc, and the Sherman Anti-Trust Act was passed to limit monopolies. Then we had the Great Depression when the capitalists had gotten out of control again and crashed our economy and the divergence between rich and poor had become obscene. And now today, once again, we have a homeless problem and tent cities, and the divergence between rich and poor is even greater than during the Great Depression.
When will we ever learn that Capitalism is a system without ethics and that it needs to be controlled because the bottom line is their only objective.
