We now know that masks do little to nothing to prevent the spread. There were people on this site calling for death by neglect to anyone who would not comply. We now know that natural immunity is as strong, and most probably stronger that the vax regiment. We know now that covid deaths were overstated. We now know that lockdowns caused more harm than any benefit they MAY have had. It was so easy for some (on this site) to scream for the economy to be shut down, not caring about a young family being unable to pay for their shelter, childrens' school, and even health insurance and food. Of course these same people squealed when asked if they would agree not to get their SS checks during the lockdowns. We now know that there are excessive non covid deaths in all countries where the vaccine was pushed. We now know that the virus most likely came from the wuhan lab, the lab that fauci was a proponent to fund with US money. With all of the lies coming out, there are still some (even on this site) who will squeal to to the end that they were right. I guess when you wrap up your entire being into what has proven to be a farce it hurts to admit you were a stooge.
Except we truly "know" almost none of those things. Some emphatically assert those things and grasp at any new announcement as proof of their assertion. Most often they ignore the qualifications and specific conditions provided with those announcements.

For example, masks, used appropriately, *do* help to prevent the spread of viruses. Masking as exercised in the US during the pandemic was doomed to failure. That is not the failure of the mask, it is the failure of the US population. The study I read on the lockdowns made the same point - the way the US population performed the lockdown there wasn't a chance for it to be effective. The specific conditions make a difference.

The sun rises in the east is a lie for most of the year. On only two days of the year does it rise in due east and at the poles it may not rise at all. On the other hand, saying the earth rotates west to east and so sunrise, if it happens, is in the eastern half of the sky is more precise.

There is a difference between a lie with intent to deceive, a mistake, and an answer lacking details. The "lie" label is applied far too often when the real issue is inconvenient details.

Why do people insist on making claims without looking them up first, do they really think no one will check? Proof by emphatic assertion rarely works.
Confirmation bias is real; I can find any number of articles that say so.
