You can as stated call the pro shop the morning of the day you are going to play and they will put him in with some openings. This time of the year as a single player he will have no problem getting on. You want to call around 7:00 AM or a little before.

Before he gets to the course he will need a guest pass and a photo ID or he will have to pay the higher non residence/guest greens fee. If he dosen't have a golf cart to use they will either put him in with someone in the foursome with a cart or he will need to rent one. You may also ride with him at no charge as long as you don't rent a cart. At check in they will let him know what to do. Pro shops also have nice rental clubs available.

At a 20 handicap he will have no problem joining any group as many of the golfers here in The Villages play at that level. He will be welcomed by any of the people that he is paired up with as this is the norm here in The Villages. As you call in he can ask to play with guys or a group with at least one guy. In most cases that is what they will do anyway.

You can also put him in over the tee time phone set up and the instructions are available at any pro shop. This can be a little frustrating as it is not the easiest system to use at first once you get used to it its ok. This also can be done over the computer tee time set up if you are on that system. Again at this time of the year calling in is the easiest.

If you have any questions drop by a pro shop and ask them. The best time to go by is between waves which is from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM and they will be able to take time in explaining anything that you would want to know.

After he does this once or twice he will feel very comfortable with the program.
