It is correct to say that he killed him. In order to be murder, it has to be an unlaw killing.
The Florida statutes state:
782.04 Murder.—
(1)(a) The unlawful killing of a human being:
1. When perpetrated from a premeditated design to effect the death of the person killed or any human being;
If it is justified, it wouldn't be unlawful so it would not be murder.
