I believe "way back" when we built our home here, something like that did exist. I believe the max. speed for a G.C. was 19 mph, and, if you bought from the G.C. store owned by the Villages, we were told all their carts were mechanically altered for that top speed. At the time the sales person said that, we found it rather odd. Thinking, when you purchase an automobile, the dealer does not "fix it" so it will not do the maximum speed shown on the speedometer; it's the buyer's individual decision to speed, or not to speed. But I do believe the Villages made an effort to control G.C. speed. Of course it is ridiculous to think no one is able to increase the speed of a cart... reminds me of the argument that we can control criminals having access to firearms by making laws. There may STILL be a G.C. speed limit in the Villages, but you would never know it.
