The idea is to coat the front part of your car's hood with a lubricant of some kind and when the love bugs hit the hood, the lubricant prevents their acidic bodies from attacking the hood's paint.
........I think that WD-40 might be a cure that is worse than the problem. I would suggest Vaseline or maybe olive oil instead of WD-40.
.....If you are driving long distances in Florida, you also have the problem of dead love bugs on your windshield. So, you need to have your windshield cleaner filled up and have some rags ready to stop and get streaks off your windshield.
