I'm a bit surprised about the attitude in the Villages of "electric vs gas" golf carts. When I made my decision to buy a golf cart it was based on the availability and what I thought I would be doing with it. My wife in particular didn't like the exhaust smell, so we went with a lithium ion cart. But that had nothing to do with any disdain for gas golf carts. It just worked best for me and my usage.
If it was a choice between lead cell battery cart and gas, it's hands-down gas. Not because I look down on lead cell, but the need to replace/maintain the batteries, along with lead cell power degradation over time wasn't something I wanted to deal with.
I would imagine many of the gas cart owners bought their carts more than a few years ago, before lithium ion carts were more common, and might decide to purchase one the next time around. But if their current gas cart is running fine, why dump it just for the latest/greatest?
I already told my wife that if we go down to one car, I will be getting a gas cart to replace it, so we have one electric and one gas depending on where/how far we need to go. All about buying the best tool for the job.
