Their are many of these filters and if installed by the side of your house near the valve box no one is going to complain. At least i've not heard of any complaints. You can always put a shrub in front of it. As far as removing the screen on each head, that is the worst thing you can do because the debris will clog the head and in most cases you won't be able to clean the head to make it work properly. Eventually some small rock debris will get in the head and ruin it.
