S. are extremely popular, so my opinion is definite a minority, but we had every window in a previous home done, don't remember but added 4-5K ! I loved the look, kind of island tropical. However, the cleaning (even with a vac tool made for the purpose) took hours, ours could not be completely removed to clean (like a traditional bind), they definitely had limitations as to the degree of light that was able to enter, made cleaning the windows much more difficult (our swung out into the room), and fresh air flow was affected when not in AC months. After a few years, I was so dismayed over the dirt and dust that could not be cleaned out even with constant vacuuming; too many small areas that eventually looked slightly grey, never looked sparkling clean like when installed, so I made the difficult decision to have all of them taken out. So, definitely will not refute the many who will respond how much they love them. I know many do ! If you've had them previously, then you know you want them, if not, just make sure first because they are a large investment.
Interesting. Limiting light is a plus for us. When we want it darker, they're great. When we want more light, just tilt them open and we have plenty of light! And a simple occasional wipe down with a Swiffer deals with any dust issues...
