The fee to get medically certified is chump change in comparison to the fact there are no taxes on medical card holders. That’s a big reason most states that approve medical quickly follow up with legalization of recreational, follow the tax $$$$$. When Massachusetts first legalized recreational use the dispensaries were full of cars with license plates from the surrounding states, now most of those states have legalized marijuana so they don’t miss out on the tax revenue. The New England region has now become a mature market with significant competition, which has resulted in prices dropping over 50% the last couple of years.
I shake my head when driving around the 5 college area in western Massachusetts, just about every new business that pops up is either a brewery or marijuana dispensary. How can an economy be sustainable in the long run that is based on drinking and smoking? Yet another reason not to forgive those student loans?
