Rumors are typically not fact but "wannabees" who think they know more about the topic at hand. I worked for The Bureau of Prisons for 25 years, as did my husband.
Points: 1. there are thousands of inmates at Coleman, so where do they put the inmates? All BOP facilities are overcrowded so moving them is not an option.
2. So why not build another prison for Coleman inmates? It would take YEARS (I mean YEARS) to find and build another facility.
3. Coleman has 5 different facilities and is the largest federal prison in the system. It cost millions of dollars to complete. It would take $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to tear it all down.
4. Think of all the staff (2,000+) used to fulfil the mission of the BOP at Coleman. Staff are already working overtime due to staff shortages. This is their livelihood...where would they put ALL staff, especially those who are local and plan to work their entire career at Coleman? They didn't do anything to warrant termination. The BOP would not do that...they take care of their staff (its no picnic). Generally 2 big "no-nos" to lead to firing a staff member would be sleeping with an inmate (Yuck..its also a federal offense which can lead one not only termination but federal time and becoming a felon) and bringing drugs into the institution.
So I say all this to debunk the rumor that TV is buying Coleman. They are NOT, atleast with my train of thought. But again, it makes no sense.
