Because it's a lie. The more a lie is accepted, the next lie becomes easier to promote and inculcate. Live and let live is apathy. Who cares as long as it doesn't impact me? That's kind of selfish self-imposed ignorance that allows others to take advantage, and when it's too late, you wake up and find things being imposed on you that you that you are suddenly very concerned about but unable to do anything about.
