Since brains start with female characteristics and develop into male brains, the most common conflict is when this doesn't happen. The brain has a more female structure while the body develops as male. Someone who changes their outward structure to better align the two is known as a trans-woman.
This has nothing to do with sexual desires. This not a sin. This is not deviant behavior. This is not something that can be "cured" through deprogramming. This is not a choice any more than left-handedness is a choice.
Things might be better for these people if our social norms were changed. If we stopped demanding that those with male characteristics behave one way and those with female characteristics behave a different way. If society was more accepting of those who were different then there wouldn't be as much pressure to look the part you feel you need to play. Unfortunately, acceptance of those who are different hasn't caught on yet.

Almost an example of an oxymoron. Accepting OR forcing acceptance? Tolerance is more likely before condoning. The problem is that "they" want to be accepted as normal when the fact is that they do not fit the normal category. Suffice it to say that most good folks tolerate and have removed laws prohibiting the perverted nature of some of those alphabet representatives. They may not condone and shouldn't be forced into condoning against their will. Tolerance should be enough. You generalize when you suggest "accepting of those that are different" when that could encompass many other examples of deviant behavior. Should pedophiles be accepted because they are different? After all, they were accepted in Greece. Bestiality accepted because they have different inclinations? Where is the line between normal and abnormal or what we accept or not? Like I have said many times, keep your inclinations in private. I do not wish to know or be forced to accept that which is considered taboo in most cultures and definitely by the majority of American citizens, whether tolerated or outlawed. Just because something feels good, does not make it right or acceptable. I have known of persons that would disrobe and run completely nude throughout the community. That is a person that is different, so I should "accept" their behavior? Common sense or common decency? Even on here, there are those that defend the abnormal and yet use the term "different" when referring to the deviant lifestyle. Different in this case, is saying that it is not normal behavior.
