It is very violent but the violent parts are quite short interspersed with 20 + minutes of talking which seems to be common for movies by Tarantino.

Really more of a James Bond like flick than Saving Private Ryan or Schindler's List.

Some of the photography is gorgeous but the acting often seems way over the top. Maybe Tarintino was trying to lighten the mood with this over acting.

The villains seems to have the biggest parts, You really do not see all that much of the Basterds at work. The story seems to focus more around a Jewish woman and her plan of revenge against the main villain of this movie-- an SS officer called the Jew Hunter.
