Since brains start with female characteristics and develop into male brains, the most common conflict is when this doesn't happen. The brain has a more female structure while the body develops as male. Someone who changes their outward structure to better align the two is known as a trans-woman.

This has nothing to do with sexual desires. This not a sin. This is not deviant behavior. This is not something that can be "cured" through deprogramming. This is not a choice any more than left-handedness is a choice.

Things might be better for these people if our social norms were changed. If we stopped demanding that those with male characteristics behave one way and those with female characteristics behave a different way. If society was more accepting of those who were different then there wouldn't be as much pressure to look the part you feel you need to play. Unfortunately, acceptance of those who are different hasn't caught on yet.
Are there any limits to what is to be "accepted", however those impacted got there they have substansule issues , and again there is no reason to make their lives anymore difficult, at the same time to lose sight of reality can not be healthy, certainly not for the greater society and in the long run the individual. In a former life I had ,from time to time deal with individuals in crisis , one basic rule was never enter into that person fantasy or delusion, I learned to always be pragmatic but at the same time my experiences left me with more compassion . The world is a real place that has to dealt with as it is , ignore facts at your peril
