Good news, it’s an instantaneous death. Bad news, no way for anyone to know and search/rescue is futile.
We may never know. And their families.

Logic would seem to support a catastrophic event. If it was simply a communication failure, I would think that protocol would be to end the event.
Also, seems that even if design does not accommodate exit from the inside, that it could at minimum provide access to air from/to the inside.
If a private company develops a risky activity for profit with no government approval or agreement, there should be no expectation of unlimited risk or expenditure by the government. Perhaps there is a huge insurance policy covering some expense.
