The Foothills of the Smoky Mountains, especially on the Tennessee Side, are awesome in the summer months! Perfect temps, Blue Skies. Easy to Rent a cabin. Use **** or similar site. The weather's GREAT up there in Spring, Summer and Fall.
You can easily drive right to the Smoky's and stop at a few great pit stops at the base of the Mtn. to talk to a Park Ranger or book a few excursions. We always spoke to the ranger, but did our own exploring, hiking, fly fishing, etc
A great place to Pick up a map before you begin the memorable drive/ exploration.
There are wonderful towns with good restaurants and shops nearby, so you're not in the boondocks while vacationing.
On Top of Ole' Smoky, There was an old town from the 1800's. Church and Cemetary and several cabins are left to go into. The Smokys are very, very serene, interesting and beautiful. Easy to pull over anywhere along the way and fish, etc.
Most pioneers wouldn't have survived their first brutal winter without the aid of the Indian tribes nearby. That's what we learned from the Park Rangers during many excursions to to the top.
(The Rangers probably say Native Americans nowadays, but they didn't a few summer's ago). Let me know if they woke. I hope not, actually.
