Now, capacitors in the Carrier heat pumps are failing, and service people are backed up. Unless one has a service contract, it could be days before someone can come out.
I've been lucky...having spare parts handy have been valuable. They collect dust, but are ready to be put to good use. Seems one is more subject to problems if spares are already in hand.
Someday, my luck will run out. Fingers crossed.

I don't know of any service contract that will guarantee that someone will come to your house within a specific time.
