What passes for landline in most situations around the Villages isn't landline at all. It's cable, and requires both a modem AND electricity. If the power goes out, your phone won't work.
With true landline, you don't need electricity. You'll get dial-tone and be able to make a call whether there's electricity or not. If you are looking for actual landline, call whatever phone services are in the area and ask if they can provide POTS. That stands for Plain Old Telephone Service. If they don't know what that means, then they probably don't provide it.
