In the olden days women set their own hair. My grandmother had beautiful, almost waist length, white hair which she arranged in various styles. These days a short cut is preferred by many seniors. For that you need another person, preferably someone skilled, to shape your hair. If you wear your hair in a length you can upkeep yourself and you just tweak your natural hair color a bit, you never need to see a salon. It is sort of like nails. I like to let my nails breathe. Very rarely do I put something on them. They are manicured and nurtured with warm oil … but no salon. Invariably, at the salon they either filed down my nails too much, or gave me nail fungus, or promised a shellac that would last two weeks which peeled in 3 days. I find very long nails, like talons, intimidating, but some people seem to like them. If I want to be pampered I go to a spa and have various massages. I find the Princess Fairmont in Scottsdale very refreshing.
