That type of messaging especially is ALWAYS a fraud or scam. It's a common scam on Facebook. Once you respond or "like" or "friend" them, they start sending you innocent messages, laughing at your jokes, asking about the health of your kid after you'd posted they broke their leg, etc. They're data-mining you. They eventually determine that you have savings, or money, or assets, by seeing pictures of your house, or the jewelry you wear in the photos of your vacation cruise..etc. etc.

And eventually they let on that they're wealthy. And they became wealthy by [insert thing]. In fact, now that you two know each other pretty well, they'll let you in on it if you'd like. There are only a few spots available for this opportunity. You don't have to act right away but the deadline will be coming up soon.

They bring it up gradually, increasing the level of urgency until you cave in and invest. Then they come up with reasons why the investment isn't working as it should - and they'll need a little more to secure it solidly.

They'll keep doing this until you refuse. And then, they disappear. With your money.
